dual wavelength laser

The Gemini is a dual wavelength soft tissue diode laser. It’s a straightforward, small and portable piece of equipment.

What’s good about it

I love that it has a Bluetooth foot pedal as that means no cords get in the way. The unit has a very nice aesthetic look as well as being smoothly functional. It’s lightweight and portable making it easy to move between rooms. As it’s so small and looks so good, we leave it out so it’s always ready to use. We literally just turn it on and we’re ready to go.

It’s helpful when dealing with deep margins for restorative and crown and bridge work when there is a bit of bleeding and access is difficult. It’s great when doing a subgingival filling and you require a dry field and haemostasis to take a precise impression or scan. It’s fantastic for soft tissue contouring, gingivectomies, composite resins, and pre-cosmetic anterior crowns or veneers. I like using it when there is hyperplastic tissue over a partially erupted wisdom tooth.

It also allows for minimal anaesthetic and reduced downtime for the patient. It actually feels very comfortable and there is predictable healing.

It comes with the Gemini PMB Adapter Kit that’s designed to help with pain management for TMJ and jaw treatments. The light energy improves circulation, oxygenation and enzyme activity into the site. It requires repeat treatments but I’ve found it to be effective

What’s not so good

Protective goggles must be worn when using the laser. Even though the tip of the laser has illumination, the green tint of the goggles darkens the working field. I’m getting used to it now but, initially, it was quite difficult to see clearly.

Where did you get it

My fantastic rep at Dentavisison, who I’ve had for many years, put me onto this Ultradent laser.
