The Airflow Prophylaxis Master is an essential part of our guided biofilm therapy. It allows us to remove plaque and calculus biofilm during our daily routine cleans. The results are fantastic and patients love it.
What’s good about it
We go out of our way to ensure all our patients are comfortable. This unit allows for the temperature of the water to be adjusted to make the whole experience really nice. The powder cleans and removes stains but also gently polishes at the same time. We use the unit with all our patients as part of their regular check-up.
It’s also very effective when a patient has severe periodontal disease. We do a lot of implant work at our practice and the Airflow is a nice gentle way to clean the implant site.
The earlier versions of this unit created a lot of mess when they were used. The shape of the nozzle and the size of the powder granules has been changed so it’s more like an aerosol. It’s not messy at all and if you have a well-trained dental assistant, most of that can be suctioned away. We’ve only had this machine for a couple of months but it’s a huge improvement over earlier models. It also comes with a clip and clean accessory for daily maintenance.
What’s not so good
To use this unit, you need to have a separate airline that’s either underneath the chair or built into the walls of the surgery. We use it with two chairs and the unit is physically moved between them. It requires having an airline near each chair which can be an additional installation cost.
