
The University of Sydney is pleased to announce the recruitment of Dr Janet Wallace as Professor of Oral Health at the Sydney Dental School, Faculty of Medicine and Health. Dr Wallace is only the second Professor in Oral Health, in Australia, and only the third female Professor for the Sydney Dental School in its 120-year history.
“I am very proud to advance female academics to the highest level at our institution and Janet serves as inspiration for all Australian academics,” head of School Professor Heiko Spallek said.
Dr Wallace brings to the position extensive experience in higher education and research, clinical dental practice, and oral health promotion.
During her career, she has held numerous leadership positions in public sector dental services, on regulatory committees, professional associations, and in academia, including the head of Discipline for Oral Health at the University of Newcastle.
Her research passion is the oral health of the elderly—her Senior Smiles research program Senior Smiles – Newcastle University—has received international recognition.
Dr Wallace will work to develop a team of highly skilled, dedicated academics who will advance the Bachelor of Oral Health – The University of Sydney curriculum and change the dental team of the future.
