Calling all young dentists - there's a conference just for you.
Calling all young dentists – there’s a conference just for you.

My name is Carl Maddern and I graduated last year from the BDS Class of 2012 at Adelaide University.  Since graduating I found a role in private practice and I’m currently based in the Barossa Valley. The patients there are nice, and the wine is even better! I’m part of a panel of young dentists working with the team from Dental Protection Limited (DPL) to promote their services and offerings. One of the things I wanted to tell you more about is the 2013 Young Dentists Conference. It’s a conference designed specifically for young dentists, and I think it looks really interesting. I’ve only been out working for a short time, but already the difference between university and the real world has proved to be enormous! There are a million new things to learn and implement into practice, especially as someone who is just finding their footing in the professional world. That’s why the Young Dentist Conference is so appealing – because it has people just like me in mind.

Following the sell-out event last year, DPL is holding their second annual Young Dentist Conference in Sydney. The conference is on Saturday the 24th of August and truly has something to offer every young dentist in Australia. The purpose of the Young Dentist Conference is to offer challenging ideas, facts and practical tips to recent graduates, with an emphasis on how various issues can impact on our professional lives. This event is ideal for dentists who have graduated within the last six years and are looking for an innovative and entertaining conference program!

The one-day session is covering topics including complications in minor oral surgery and how to avoid them, applying lessons learned in the business world to dental practice, the practical and dento-legal pitfalls associated with (mostly) molar endodontics, and more! The presenters range from highly regarded specialists to successful career dentists, as well as a special guest who might just amaze the audience with his sleight-of-hand and business acumen!

The conference will be broken up with frequent refreshments and a tradeshow throughout the day, and to finish there’s a drinks and canapés package at Stacks Taverna in Darling Quarter, with the awe-inspiring Luminous lights as the backdrop.

The Young Dentist Conference will count for 5.5 CPD hours. Tickets are available for only $55 for DPL members and $155 for non-members. Non-members who join DPL before June 2014 however will be refunded $100 of the ticket price.

For an entertaining and informative dental conference, specifically tailored to younger dentists, you can’t look past the Young Dentist Conference 2013. It’s an opportunity to catch up with friends and to make new connections with other young dentists from around Australia, and for only $55 per ticket and 5.5 CPD hours you can’t beat the value either. Hopefully I’ll see you in Sydney this August for the Young Dentist Conference!
