I use the KaVo EXPERTsurg LUX surgical unit for implant surgery and situations where I need to remove bone, such as the extraction of impacted wisdom teeth.
What’s good about it
It’s a relatively simple machine with only a few buttons and an easy-to-read colour display. It has preset programs to adjust things like RPM, torque settings and the amount of water you use.
It’s simple to follow through surgery. When I’m doing implant surgery, I start with one particular bur and it will show a diagram of that bur with the appropriate torque settings. The intuitive display shows the type of bur, implant stage and the preset torque settings. Everything can be customised and preset. The amount of torque for the handpiece will auto-calibrate with the press of a button.
The contra-angle handpiece is light, balanced and has in-built LED lights that illuminate the operating field very
well. There’s also provision to attach saline and have water fed through the system automatically. It’s quite an easy surgical set-up.
I also like the fact that it’s designed well and feels good in the hand. I know it’s not that important but when you spend all that money, you expect it to look good in the surgery. This unit looks great and there are very few surfaces so it’s easy to swab and disinfect.
What’s not so good
It’s not a big deal but the screen on the unit is not a touchscreen. When you’re entering the settings, there is a series of buttons beside the screen and everything can be controlled with a foot pedal. However, I believe the new MASTERsurg LUX comes with a touchscreen interface.
Where did you get it
