intraoral camera

This Sopro camera is attached to our A-dec chair that we also purchased through Dental Installations. It’s easy to reach for the camera when the patient is sitting in the chair.

What’s good about it

The Sopro allows me to show patients exactly what’s happening in their mouth when they’re sitting in the chair. The image quality is very clear and can be magnified to show problem areas. There’s no need to connect to a computer—the image goes straight to the screen. I really like that everything is literally within arm’s reach.

The foot pedal is pressed to capture a photo. I’ve used other models where you need to press a button on the camera to capture the image. Often, this would cause the camera to shake and the image to blur. Using the foot pedal ensures a clear crisp image every time. The photos are automatically saved to the patient file.

The camera is shaped very nicely with a slim head. The base where you hold it is a little broader so it’s quite comfortable. There’s a cover that fits over the head to remove any external light. The cover can be sterilised and there’s also a plastic sleeve that fits over everything.

There’s no doubt that this camera encourages patients to accept treatment. When they see a cavity or tartar build-up in full colour, it’s very convincing.

What’s not so good

If you cover the head in a plastic sleeve that’s a different brand or a bit loose, it will interfere with the image quality. When any camera is attached to a chair, care must be taken not to bend the wires at the attachment point, particularly when wiping down the chair. The Sopro camera is also an expensive piece of equipment to purchase but worth it.
