This is an implant treatment planning program that manufactures implant guides. I’m currently using the MegaGen implant system but it will integrate with any implant system that’s being used.
What’s good about it
The turnaround time is very fast. Once you’ve uploaded the CBCT scans and the STL file of the jaw, an initial result is usually back within an hour. It will show the implant placed in the bone with a prosthetic on top. It allows for a top-down treatment plan where the crown is positioned first and then the implant. Implant position can be easily adjusted as well.
It also has a function called Digital Eye that produces a colour-coded analysis of bone morphology. It will identify dense D1 bone and softer bone enabling you to plan where to place the implant accordingly. I’ve placed around 30 implants using this system and it’s extremely accurate.
As it integrates with all implant systems, there is no need to purchase or use any other tools. For Megagen, I literally place all my drills and implant fixtures through the guide. The accuracy of the R2Gate system is fantastic. The post-operative X-rays match the planning guide identically.
Once I receive the treatment plan, it’s still possible to make changes easily in the software. As the turnaround time is so fast, if a patient wants a tooth out and implant in quickly, you can have the implant positioned within a week.
What’s not so good
R2Gate is a Korean company and this can sometimes lead to delightful misunderstandings with language. The clinical work is faultless but the conversations can be a little bit funny.
