People in the alley soon get onto the fact that you are going for a 300 game. It gets quiet and you can sense everyone watching you bowl.<br \/>\n\u201cThe first one I threw was in a competition at the Surfers Paradise Tenpin Bowling Centre, which was also the first 300 game thrown there. The owner took a couple of photos of me with some meter-maids and put it on the wall. It could still be there. I haven\u2019t been back since.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was at university, I worked part-time in a bowling alley on Fridays and Saturdays. I thought I would give it a go, had a bit of coaching and really enjoyed it. There\u2019s a definite art and sporting element to the game but there\u2019s also the recreational side where you go for a laugh and a few beers with friends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you just want to muck about with your mates, bowling doesn\u2019t require any fitness at all. It\u2019s a pretty tough competition against the best in Australia and our team came fourth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t bowl in serious competitions anymore. I\u2019m just part of a league that meets every Wednesday. Our team is called The One and even though we haven\u2019t been doing so well this season, it\u2019s still a lot of fun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great sport for all ages and all levels of skill. Anyone can bowl in a league and be competitive. I throw about a 200 average and if I play someone with a 130 average, they\u2019ll get a 60-70 pin handicap. If we both throw our averages, we are going to end up having a real battle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDentists make good bowlers as it involves a fair bit of hand-eye coordination and that\u2019s something we tend to have. It also gets you out of the surgery and away from golf.
