I\u2019m Malaysian Chinese and was raised in an active food culture and environment. I was born in Penang and the street food there is fantastic\u2014fun, energetic and easily accessible. Culturally, it\u2019s all about sharing food with family and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile I love to eat, and enjoy high-end food served at fancy restaurants, I resonate with cheap eats in Chinatown and South-East Asian hawker food. Last year, I met a food influencer at a party and we were talking about different places to eat and restaurants that he rated. I disagreed with everything he was recommending. Sure, everyone has their own tastes, and everyone\u2019s palate is different, but it inspired me to start sharing and expressing what I like to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt the beginning of 2022, I started my own foodie Instagram page. There\u2019s a lot of work that goes into it to be successful. Do I add reels or stories or static posts? You need to consider the best times to post, who you should interact with, and how to best utilise the algorithms. I go through periods when I\u2019m across all aspects of Instagram. Then there are times when I\u2019m feeling lazy, but I do try to post every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of my favourite places to eat at the moment is Cirrus Dining at Barangaroo. It\u2019s modern Aussie with a focus on seafood and has a South-East Asian influence. Recently, we had a fish meal there with sambal sauce that was just delicious. If I was on death row, my last meal request would be everything twice. Or one of my mum\u2019s dishes that I loved from childhood. Whatever food you ate as a child tends to stay very close to your heart. Especially your mum\u2019s cooking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver the next few years, I plan to actively engage with more foodies. I\u2019d like to build my profile until I reach influencer status. That means having 5000 or 10,000 followers and there\u2019s a lot of work to get there. The problem with many food influencers is that they get invited to restaurants, eat for free and their reviews are always positive.
