I\u2019ve always painted so I started to take it all a bit more seriously. I set up a home studio and put time aside to paint more regularly. Eventually, I switched to part-time dentistry so I could divide my time between my two passions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been artistic my whole life. When I was considering a full-time career, being creative is part of what drew me to dentistry. I believe that dentistry is a perfect blend of art, science and human communication. I love exploring different styles and experimenting with different mediums. I\u2019m more into abstract painting now but I paint landscapes as well. My abstracts have a lot of nature references that are inspired by my partner\u2019s hobby farm. After an exhibition, I receive all sorts of different feedback. I guess that\u2019s the beauty of abstracts; different people experience it in different ways. I also enjoy painting realistic landscapes and receive a lot of commissions for this style of painting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve set up my own website where I sell my work. I\u2019ve also put my art onto a wide variety of items\u2014tables, pillows, phone cases, bowls, bags, water bottles and deck chairs. I\u2019ve decorated bathmats, mugs and birthday cards. It\u2019s all for sale on my website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m on maternity leave at the moment but plan to get involved with art shows, exhibitions and competitions again soon. I also sell my work through the Bluethumb website that has over 150,000 artists listed. I\u2019m a featured artist on there so that gets me more exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cArt allows me to be able to express myself and do something I love. It\u2019s very satisfying to make something and be proud of the finished item. When people commission me, they want me to create something they are visualising in their mind. When they see the finished product and there is joy on their faces, that\u2019s quite a moment. Painting is also a really good way to de-stress after a long week of work where you\u2019re focusing on very small things. It\u2019s a freeing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy plans for the future are to enjoy my new baby and balance child-rearing with all the other aspects of my life.
