But for many dentists, it is a goal that ticks a lot of boxes \u2013 from achieving a career milestone through to driving personal wealth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-dentist-s-own-skills-provide-the-equity-needed\">A dentist\u2019s own skills provide the equity needed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The choice of whether to start a practice or transition from being an associate to a partner in an established practice is a very personal one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The common thread is that dentists can usually borrow up to 100% of the funds*&nbsp;needed to achieve their goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeremy explains, \u201cWhen it comes to buying a home, lenders want the borrower to provide equity in the form of a deposit or other collateral.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe situation is very different when a dentist requires funding to buy into a practice or start one from scratch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn this instance, the equity that lenders look for comes in the shape of the extraordinary investment dentists make in their own intellectual property. It\u2019s the depth of their professional skills that allows dentists to borrow up to 100% of practice finance needs*.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeremy adds that dentists don\u2019t need to offer their family home as security for practice funding. \u201cThis is a valuable plus as it allows dentists to maintain that distinction between personal and professional finances,\u201d he notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-different-ways-of-financing-a-practice\">Different ways of financing a practice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The financing options best suited to a dentist\u2019s goals will depend on whether they buy into a practice or start a new practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-buying-into-an-existing-practice\">Buying into an existing practice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dentists who buy into a practice are paying for a share of the goodwill already built into the practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn this case, we would suggest a&nbsp;practice goodwill loan,\u201d says Jeremy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The value of the goodwill itself will depend on several variables including how long the practice has been operating, the lease term, and whether an outgoing partner is exiting or remaining in the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeremy notes, \u201cThe Avant Finance team will work closely with a dentist\u2019s accountant and legal adviser, to assess the value of goodwill, and ensure an optimum outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-growing-a-practice-from-scratch\">Growing a practice from scratch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting a dental practice from scratch calls for a different type of finance, often with a blend of loans that address different funding needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a guide, finance is typically required for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a0the cost of fitting out the premises,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a0purchasing practice equipment, and\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a0providing working capital,\u00a0often through a line of credit facility, as it can take time for the practice to generate significant revenue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt may sound complex,\u201d says Jeremy, \u201cBut this is where Avant Finance adds value.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe invest time discussing each dentist\u2019s financing needs, which allows us to identify suitable options from our own range of practice finance products plus those of our lender partners.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For more information, visit<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/avant.org.au\/finance\/practice-finance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">http:\/\/avant.org.au\/finance\/practice-finance<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*Eligibility criteria, terms and conditions, fees and charges apply.
