It is&nbsp;important that it is used appropriately and that patients are clearly informed of potential risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The significant increase in approvals for the use of CRS for dental treatments in recent years raises concerns that some practitioners may be placing profits over patient care.<\/p><div class=\"bitem-article-desktop-720x300-in-text\" id=\"bitem-3543113884\"><!-- Bite 720x300 [async] -->\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">if (!window.AdButler){(function(){var s = document.createElement(\"script\"); s.async = true; s.type = \"text\/javascript\";s.src = 'https:\/\/servedby.engagemedia.com.au\/app.js';var n = document.getElementsByTagName(\"script\")[0]; n.parentNode.insertBefore(s, n);}());}<\/script>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\nvar AdButler = AdButler || {}; AdButler.ads = AdButler.ads || [];\r\nvar abkw = window.abkw || '';\r\nvar plc705185 = window.plc705185 || 0;\r\ndocument.write('<'+'div id=\"placement_705185_'+plc705185+'\"><\\\/'+'div>');\r\nAdButler.ads.push({handler: function(opt){ AdButler.register(165450, 705185, [720,300], 'placement_705185_'+opt.place, opt); }, opt: { place: plc705185++, keywords: abkw, domain: 'servedby.engagemedia.com.au', click:'CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER' }});\r\n<\/script><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahpra and the Dental and Medical Boards of Australia are working with other regulators including the ATO to understand the recent growth in applications to use CRS to fund treatment and identify any concerns about inappropriate conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under close examination is the practice of practitioners with high rates of report writing that indicate inappropriate patient assessment may be occurring.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are deeply concerned by reports that some practitioners may be putting their own financial gain ahead their patients\u2019 best interests,\u201d Ahpra CEO Justin Untersteiner said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re working with the ATO to identify any potential predatory practice.&nbsp;Practitioners are on notice that we will take action to protect the public.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Dental and Medical Boards of Australia remind practitioners of their ethical obligations under their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahpra.gov.au\/Resources\/Code-of-conduct.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Codes of conduct<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Practitioners are expected to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>put their patients\u2019 best interests first, providing treatment options that are based on the best available information and are not influenced by financial gain or incentives,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>be honest and not misleading when writing reports to support the release of superannuation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>make sure that patients understand the costs of treatment, before starting treatment, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>make sure patients understand the risks of treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reports of financial harms experienced by patients who have used significant amounts of superannuation to fund dental and medical treatments are deeply concerning, say Ahpra and the Dental and Medical Boards of Australia.
