well-balanced loupes

by Dr Sean Parsonage, Spa Dental, Ryde, NSW

The Zeiss EyeMag Pro loupes are a high-quality optical device. I have 4X magnification and use them with nearly every procedure. They’re comfortable and allow me to perform better dentistry.

What’s good about it

I’ve used different types of loupes in the past and most are attached to glasses with a strap around the back of your head. It has to be tight because at the end of a long day, you’re carrying a lot of strain in the back of your head and on your ears. These loupes are attached to a Zeiss carrier system that fits over the top of your head. The weight is distributed evenly and there are no pinch points. I also have a headlight attached but the carrier system handles the extra weight nicely. It’s a more comfortable way to wear loupes.

As we age, our eyes deteriorate but loupes allow us to keep supplying high-quality work. The Zeiss EyeMag Pros are fully adjustable and can be adapted to your specifications. They allow you to work in a relaxed position so there’s no head or neck pain. If you wear prescription glasses, they sit over the lenses. The headband also has a vertical adjustment and a locking lever to position the loupes at the perfect height and angle for each user.

What’s not so good

This is an expensive set-up of several thousand dollars. They’re an investment but if you look after them, they will last a long time.

Where did you get it
