Estelite Asteria is a universal composite I use for nearly all my fillings. It works beautifully in anterior and posterior teeth and provides outstanding aesthetic results.
What’s good about it
It’s 70 per cent filled by volume and has excellent polish-ability. It sets nicely and has a simplified shading program. By layering different colours, you can get a nice outcome for your patient without the process being overly complex. This is the composite I use with nearly every patient.
It’s hard-wearing and not sticky so it’s easy to work. Under normal light, it’s malleable for 90 seconds and easy to sculpt. It keeps its glossy look for a long time and is a great composite for creating invisible margins.
Estelite Asteria is available in a syringe or compules. I tend to use compules for the back teeth and the syringe for front teeth. The syringe effectively cuts down on waste. A compule can’t be used between patients so any material that isn’t utilised gets thrown away.
This composite cures in 10 seconds but I cure it for the standard 20 seconds just to be thorough. The end result is natural looking and mimics the surrounding tooth structure.
What’s not so good
I like this product but if there was one thing on my wish list, it would be that there were more highly chromatic shades. I like to colour match accurately and that would give me better options.
