The first ever award ceremony for Filling the Gap (FTG) was held at the ADA NSW new Digital Training Centre on Friday 13 June, followed by a lunch. This was a rare chance to bring together and recognise the generous dental work contributions made by ADA NSW’s member dentists.
The pre-lunch keynote speech was given by former NSW Liberal leader and honorary president of Lifeline International John Brogden, who spoke on the value of volunteering and why Australian society needs people to volunteer to help those who are vulnerable, or in need.
Chair of FTG Dr Jodie Olivier then presented inaugural volunteer awards to two recipients, recognising their outstanding generosity and impact within the wider community.
Volunteer of the Year went to Dr Andrew Parsons, who has restored function, dignity and confidence to over 120 patients through more than 400 appointments—a contribution valued at over $275,000.
Volunteer Practice of the Year went to Dr Robert Aslan and the team at St Anthony Dental, whose ongoing commitment to pro bono care has transformed the lives of over 100 patients across 200+ appointments, providing over $150,000 in treatment.
“We’re grateful to every one of our volunteers—and thrilled to celebrate these two exceptional contributors,” Dr Olivier said.
