3D CBCT unit

by Dr Su Lin Lim, Simply Teeth, West Perth, WA

We purchased the Dexis OP 3D CBCT when our old OPG machine had run its course. In addition to being able to take highly detailed 3D images, it also takes high-quality 2D images, doubling up as an OPG unit.

What’s good about it

Prior to owning this unit, we referred patients that needed 3D imaging to a radiology clinic. It was an extra step and an additional barrier for those patients. Sometimes, it took many months for patients to have it taken because they didn’t have the time or had other priorities.

Being able to offer this service in our practice is invaluable. We only use it with specific cases but it allows us to see many things that wouldn’t have been noticed before. It definitely makes you more careful and thorough as a dentist.

Originally, we purchased it for implants and wisdom teeth surgery. What surprised me was the benefit of using it for root canals and pain assessment. It makes your treatment superior. As you can see so clearly inside the teeth, it makes you more aware of when specialist treatment is required.

We needed to do a little renovation to the practice so we could accommodate the machine with the correct thickness of the walls. Henry Schein helped set it up and was in contact with the Radiological Council to ensure everything went smoothly. All of our team received training, but it isn’t an overly complex machine to run.

It’s wonderful to be able to sit down with a patient and show them exactly what’s wrong or what’s causing them pain. I can’t imagine clinical practice without it.

What’s not so good

Purchasing this unit is a long-term investment. While there’s a large up-front cost, you have to invest in this type of equipment to make your practice progressive with the ability to treat patients to the highest standard.

Where did you get it
