Dentistry is a physically demanding job. We’re working with our hands all day long and often have to place our bodies in contorted positions. A lot of dentists suffer back pain, particularly as they get older. The Score Balance saddle seat can take most of the strain off your back.

What’s good about it

The Score Balance saddle seat, made by Athlegen, allows you to work comfortably by taking the weight off your back and upper body and transferring it to your legs. It has an active function where micro-adjustments can be made thanks to a pivot mechanism in the base of the seat. While still supporting your weight on the seat, you can make micro-movements to slightly adjust your position. This is an important option for dentists who are constantly changing positions. The mechanism gives an extra 10- or 15-degrees tilt while actively strengthening your lower back.

I first heard about this seat at the IDS trade show in Cologne in 2017. There were 30 different halls, thousands of people and tens of thousands of products. The Score Balance chair really stood out.

I use this saddle seat every day with every patient. I’ve had other saddle seats in the past but I’ve noticed my body is less tired when using the Balance. It’s also a superbly comfortable seat as the saddle shape isn’t as extreme as other brands. I’ve recommended this seat to some of my colleagues who work in the practice and they love the chair.

What’s not so good

Even though it’s not too expensive, it does cost more than other saddle seats.

Where did you get it
